Research and development

Research and development is a key driver of what we do, providing an evidence base for our CPD offer and ensure our packages of support are ‘tried and tested’ This evidence provides a rich resource that we use to drive our CPD programmes and in developing middle and senior leaders.

The next stage of our development as a Teaching School Alliance is to establish a culture of research engagement for all staff. We want our workforce to really understand the impact of evidence-based teaching, so it is important to get them on board with the idea of research and how that can impact on their practice. We realise that it may take time and perseverance to change perceptions and embed a research and development culture.

We are adopting a strategic approach to achieve a culture of research and development. We are beginning to identify embedded practice with the greatest impact on progress and attainment of pupils living in prolonged and extreme socio-economic disadvantage compared to solutions thathave had significant, but only short term, impact.

As part of this, we are establishing learning groups across a team to undertake research using an agreed research methodology. The agreed focus for each group will be linked directly with the schools’ development plans and will form the basis of CPD for staff. Opportunities to join our group are available for senior leaders, please contact us to find out about becoming involved.
