Be Outstanding: a modular package of training to support your staff

This series of courses allows schools to support their staff to Be Outstanding. Each course focuses on a core area of need in relation to practice. Whilst each individual course achieves high-impact results, it is recommended that they are booked as a full programme of training to maximise results in the classroom.

Each course is priced at £150 + VAT. A full suite of training, inclusive of all five courses, costs £600 – meaning each course will cost you just £120! Each course is a stand-alone session, so you can choose to send different delegates to each or alternatively book delegates on to the full programme – the ultimate training experience.

Be Outstanding: At Behaviour for Learning

Effective Behaviour for Learning is central to outstanding learning opportunities in the classroom. This fast-paced, intensive course will look at:

  • Managing low level disruption, and how doing this can transform the classroom experience.
  • Establishing classroom boundaries.
  • Interactive activity exploring how teachers may approach difficult situations, and how non-verbal cues can combat unwanted behaviour.
  • How seating plans can support you, and how praise and reward systems recognise students and encourage more difficult students to rise to expectations.

Core outcome: Your teams will be equipped to manage behaviour in a way that ensures an outstanding experience for students.

Be Outstanding: At Questioning

The right questions lead to the best possible experiences for children. This session will unlock the power of questioning for your staff and children. Aspects this course covers include:

  • Practical activities around open/closed, hinge, Socratic and ‘thunk’ questioning.
  • How to use Bloom’s effectively, and how to pitch questions.
  • Writing questions that motivate, including using image prompts and mind maps.
  • Creating the right environment for questioning, and ensuring all children participate in the questioning journey.

Core outcome: Delegates will be able to creatively use questioning to deliver outstanding teaching and learning.

Be Outstanding: At Assessment for Learning

Accurate and insightful Assessment for Learning (AfL) is at the heart of all outstanding schools. It allows teachers and leaders to identify where children can achieve more. This one day course covers topics including:

  • What is AfL?
  • Interactive activities exploring effective assessment.
  • Assessment over time – methods to ensure that the best quality of information is obtained.
  • Differences between assessment and Assessment for Learning, and balancing assessment with feedback.

Core outcome: Staff will be confident in using data to challenge and support all students.

Be Outstanding: At Differentiation

This session explores outstanding differentiation and the strategies to facilitate this. Delegates will also be able to see differentiation in action and topics covered include:

  • Why we need differentiation, and differentiation for higher ability students.
  • Main areas of differentiation in the classroom, including differentiated questioning and the purpose it serves.
  • Use of Learning/Teaching Assistants and role reversal.

Core outcome: Staff will be able to tailor their teaching and learning, and challenge students of all abilities.

Be Outstanding: At Pace, Engagement and Enjoyment

This course allows delegates to fine-tune their skills when facilitating outstanding pace, engagement and enjoyment in the classroom. Some of the topics that are covered include:

  • What is pace, engagement and enjoyment, and what does it look like?
  • Scaffolding lessons and how to get the best from students.
  • Using technology and activities that will support delegates to introduce effective Pace, Engagement and Enjoyment.

Core outcome: Delegates will create a classroom environment pitched at a level that keeps students motivated, engaged and enjoying outstanding experiences.
